Materials Characterization: Workshop that will cover topics of importance to scientists, laboratory supervisors and technicians in industry and academia where knowledge of the physical characteristics of powders and solids is essential.
This workshop will take place at Micromeritics Instrument Corporation, 4356 Communications Drive, Norcross, GA. Two sessions of three presentations will be offered by Micromeritics staff scientists. Each presentation will include a question and answer period. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in any two of three presentations. These sessions will be followed by a tour of Micromeritics manufacturing facility and a social mixer where one lucky guest will win an Apple iPad. If required, transportation will be available from the Georgia World Congress Center to Micromeritics and back to area hotels.
- Ultra-precision engineering from physics to manufacturing. London, UK, 21 March 2011-22 March 2011. Venue: The Royal Society, London
Ultra-precision engineering is a multi-disciplinary subject facilitating the transfer of fundamental physics into technology solutions. Numerous life-enhancing technologies, which harness the basic principles of physics, demand extreme levels of accuracy to enable practical realisation. This meeting will bring together scientists and engineers to review the evolution of ultra-precision engineering, to discuss scientific advances/challenges and set out a roadmap for the future. Organised by Professor Xiangqian Jiang, Professor Paul Shore, Professor Pat McKeown OBE and Professor David Whitehouse - registration.
- "What next for the Compound Semiconductor Industry?". Frankfurt, Germany, CS Europe, 22nd March 2011, Hilton, Frankfurt, Germany
Pioneering companies from around the globe will give their take on the best opportunities for compound semiconductors, and what has to be done to seize these opportunities. If you want to learn from the insight of these insiders, be sure to book your place at CS Europe - registration.
- 4th Annual Nanotechnology Safety for Success Dialogue Workshop. March 29 - 30, 2011, Brussels, Belgium
http://ec.europa.eu/health/nanotechnology/events/ev_20110329_en.htm
Many market modelers identify nanotechnologies as drivers of economic growth. Consequently, most governments in the industrialized and industrializing world adopted ambitious strategic, research and innovation, plans to ensure the commercial success of nanotechnologies and to harvest their fruits.
Nanoscience and the nanotechnologies are progressing at a rapid pace. The number of potential and real applications is increasing rapidly, even when accounting for those claims relating to marketing rather than added-value.
Like other artifacts designed, engineered, and used by humans, nanomaterials promise benefits and raise concerns, in particular for workers, the general public, and the environment.
The aim of the workshop is to bring together leaders in the emerging field of computational nanotoxicology to form an international Community of Practice for accelerated development of the science of QNTR. The workshop involves policy makers, relevant COST Actions as well as experts from institutions, ranging from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre to the Australian Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation.
